Golfing at Desert Mountain Golf Course, and more in Scottsdale
Sometimes it's good to just get out for a day and relax while playing 18 holes, especially when you've been towing cars 7 days a week for as long as you can remember! That's why a few buddies and I took an opportunity to go play a round at Desert Mountain Golf Course up in Scottsdale, where all of us are members.
We decided to make a full day of it, since our tee time wasn't until 1:00 pm, so we had breakfast to start, at the famous Butters Pancakes & Cafe, right off of Hayden Rd and East Via de Ventura. A few bloody mary's and a solid two-egg and bacon meal was just what we needed to get things started off on the right foot. From there we made the trip up the 101 and took Pima Rd north until we hit the golf course. We all needed to hit the range and putting green for a while so that we felt confident before taking the tee on #1.
It was myself, Jack, Devon, and Chris. I wouldn't say we are avid golfers, but we aren't terrible, by any means. The 4 of us attended college together at Scottsdale Community College, and we use to skip class quite a bit to hit the links-- shh, don't tell our parents! Either way, we all graduated and went on to 4-year universities, so I'd say we did okay. Each of us now run our own successful businesses, with 3 of them located right here in Scottsdale, while Jack's got his window tinting business over in Paradise Valley. After spending our youth here and loving every minute of it, it was natural for us to settle here and continue to enjoy the East Valley.
Alright, back to the golf game.
Each of us had a pretty decent round, with two of us shooting in the low 80's, and the other two in the high 80's. Not bad for a group of guys that gets out to play just a handful of times each year. The highlight of the round was Jack's near hole in one on the back nine. A two foot putt, and it was an easy birdie for him.
Following the round, we drove down past Troon North, Pinnacle Peak Park, and WestWorld of Scottsdale as we got back into the heart of the city to grab a few late afternoon beverages at Skeptical Chymist-- an Irish Bar with the best pints of Guinness on tap you've ever tasted. We had to stop ourselves from drinking too many before heading home for the evening to be with our families. After all, you can't spend all day out when you've got a wife and kids at home as well--which all 4 of us do.
Perhaps you're a golfer that wants to experience and learn more about Scottsdale, and you're looking for a good way to spend your next Saturday. If you wanna follow exactly what we did, it's almost a guarantee that you're going to have an amazing day-- provided you like to throw back a few beers and have some laughs with friends as well.
